08:23 pm - My eyes hurt. I just cried like I've never cried before.
I just finished reading "My Sister's Keeper'.
PITA tried to take the book away from me when I couldn't talk and was pressing my fingers to my eyes.
I won't spoil it for those who've yet to read it.
But I didn't expect that ending.
I must read too much damn fluff and puff with pretty red bows at the end, because I should have seen that coming and I didn't.
An enjoyable read, even if I feel like a knife is lodged in my throat.

12:46 pm - My New Hero The Little one has the flu and she's been so sick (and mean). The Dr mentioned she could take NyQuil, but I wasn't sure about it. Well last night I caved and gave her some.
OMG I LOVE THE PERSON WHO INVENTED NyQuil!!!!
She slept the whole night and hasn't vomited since yesterday evening. And yes, I'm a horrible mother, I gave her some after she had breakfast this morning. It was the first food she's kept down since last Wednesday. AND NOW SHE'S SLEEPING!!!! Everyone should give their teenagers NyQuil once in a while :P I only wish I had thought of it with the older one when she was 'dying' last week with an upper-respiratory. Mark my words, I'll remember for next time.
Use the liquid for best results:P

06:14 pm - Harry, A History
I just finished Melissa Anelli's "Harry, A History" and kept wondering why I don't remember meeting Melissa, because a lot of the book reminds me of my own time in the Harry Potter Fandom. How could we have had the same experiences while being hundreds sometimes thousands of miles away from each other. It was very deja Vu-like. I have to say that I enjoyed 99.9% of the book and actually learned a few things that I didn't know. But here's the .01% I didn't like.
pg. 222
"...there was Gryffindor Tower, a distinctly Harry/Ginny-based site in which the most popular fic featured a teenage, pregnant Ginny, who allowed herself to have Harry's child at seventeen years old because Dumbledore had soberly informed her and Harry that they needed to procreate to save the world."
To sum up GT's life on the web with such a sentence, while it may be factually true, gives a false impression of what the entire site was about. Now, I don't mean any offense to Melissa, because she wasn't around when GT was born. I just wish she had asked someone who was or maybe someone who wasn't biased to give a better 32 word description of who we were.
Gryffindor Tower, the first Harry/Ginny based site stood alone among the masses. Although there was no 'un-subtexted' canon to prove the Harry/Ginny ship, the Queens (owners of GT) fiercly believed the couple would come together. Alienation, ridicule, and downright nastiness were many of the prices paid for being a H/G prior to the release of HBP. The site now defunct once housed over 300 authors, artists of unbelievable talent. The message boards were also home to well over 1400 members. Life long friends and enemies were made and still held.
I guess what eats me up inside is that it sounds like GT was a site for the sole use of a psycho-pathic, manipulative, backstabbing, did I say psychotic Teddy-Throwing bitch who'd rather rip friendships to shreds instead of bowing out and moving along like a decent person would have. The "if I can't be number 1, there won't be any place to be number 1", attitude killed a community.
Gryffindor Tower was not Imogen! Gryffindor Tower was Paula and Anne and Sue and Imogen. She was, at first, one fourth of a whole. At the end she wasn't even a 20th of who GT really was. She was an author who had a large fan-girl base for a story that should have ended at part two.
GT was a safe haven for those of us who believed we were reading correctly what JKR was writing. If you weren't there, you couldn't begin to understand what we went through (yeah I know, sob, sob, sob) at the hands of so called class act BNFs. We were a family that was betrayed from the inside from a cult-like manipulator who was having a hissy fit that she wasn't getting all the reviews like she so justly deserved.
Sour grapes? Hell yeah! So please, to the next author who writes a book and mentions GT, please don't.
Melissa, again, it really was a wonderful book and I can't wait to start my first re-read. Thank you for bringing our crazy online world out into the open. If anything it just proves again, we are not alone.

11:46 am - Heartache turns to Heartburn turns to something I can't describe. When I was a kid I hated to read. Then during one summer hurricane (with no TV or other entertainment) there was nothing to do and everyone in my family was reading a book in some corner of the house. So I reluctantly picked up a book, and OMG I was hooked. I was brought into another world and by the time school started I had read more then ten books. From then on I would find authors I enjoyed and would soak up as much as they would write. Then of course JKR came along and I was thrown, willingly, into another world where I would meet my closest friends and quasi children and sister.
How I wished that my daughters would find a world to dive into and lose themselves in the fantasy. More than once I tried to Potterize them, but alas it was all for naught. Say the name Potter and my daughters think Wackos, crazy online people, and Mom's insane friends.
I knew the world of Potter was lost to them and I hoped that maybe they'd find the 'next' fantastic world to get lost in, to escape from the evils of everyday life in this whacked out world.
It did a bit for the older one. She loves Shakespeare. Why I don't know, but she does and she loves to tell me which of the current movies are based on his plays. That I can deal with.
What I can't deal with is A CHAPTER BY CHAPTER - PLAY BY PLAY - RECREATION OF TWILIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Argh! My little one hated to read. With all the books she's been 'forced' to read, it's been and battle from page one. Now she reads in her room, the bathroom, the break room at work, on the bus, in class (after she's finished her work), at lunch and even at her register when no one is in the store. She comes to me with this smile on her face and says "oh, they did this, they did that" AND SHE GLOWS.
Part of me is so sad that I couldn't share Potter-verse with my kids (at least I have my nephew Nicky), but another part, the mother part, is so happy that she's found something that gives her the same joy that I've been blessed with for the past eight years.
She wants me to read the books, I'm pretty sure I won't. I guess this is HER 'something special', Her 'special world'. I think I'll leave her to it.

09:54 pm - A Mother's Heartache You know, you try to do your best. You try to give your kids good values, common sense and hope they show good judgment and good taste in their choices.
You can't always be there with them.
You have to let them make their own decisions.
You have to stand next to them while they break your heart.
I did my best. I was class mother, Girl Scout leader, VP of PTA, available for their needs, their wants and open to all the questions one mother would hope to never be asked.
I just don't know what else I could have done.
. . . . . . . . . . . The sixteen year old (the little one) couldn't be bothered with Harry Potter... . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . And now... . . . . . . . . . . . . . She's locked in her room reading Twilight... . . . . . . . . . . . AND SHE LOVES IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pray for me.

09:33 pm - Circle Letter I guess I've been reading too many Amish books lately :P But the idea all a circle letter is starting to appeal to me. Seems that I just don't have the time online as I did years ago and I really miss talking to so many of my friends. So I thought we could do a GT-LJ-FB Circle Letter.
There are a few people who don't really have a choice on whether or not they want to do it :P but I'd like as many people to do it as possible.
Here are the rules.
I'll write a letter. I'll send it to the second person on the list via email. 2nd person adds their letter above mine and emails it to the third person. 3rd person adds their letter above the second, emails to the fourth. And so on and so on and so on. When it gets back to me I'll write a new letter in place of my old letter and start again.
Letters can be short or long, BUT THEY CAN'T BE ONLY ONE OR TWO WORDS, AND YOU KNOW WHO I'M TALKING ABOUT, wipe that smirk off your face, and yes, I know I'm a bitch, but you still love me. :D
So how about it? Join the circle, just post your name and email addy.
Love Marian

Rules: 1. If you're on my friends list, I want to know a few things about you. I don't care if we never talk, or if we already know everything about each other. Short and sweet is fine ... you're on my list, so I want to know you better. You don't even have to answer all the questions, because some of them are lame and some just hard to think up.
2. Comment here with your answers and repost the questionnaire on your own journal if you'd like me to respond to it.
01) Are you currently in a serious relationship? 02) What was your dream growing up? 03) What talent do you wish you had? 04) If I bought you a drink what would it be? 05) Favourite fruit? 06) What was the last book you read? 07) What zodiac sign are you? 08) Any tattoos and/or piercings? Explain where. 09) Worst habit? 10) If you saw me walking down the street would you offer me a ride? 11) What is your favourite sport? 12) Do you have a pessimistic or optimistic attitude? 13) What would you do if you were stuck in an elevator with me? 14) Worst thing to ever happen to you? 15) Tell me one weird fact about you. 16) Do you have any pets? 17) What if I showed up at your house unexpectedly? 18) What was your first impression of me? 19) Do you think clowns are cute or scary? 20) If you could change one thing about how you look, what would it be? 21) Would you be my crime partner or my conscience? 22) What colour eyes do you have? 23) Ever been arrested? 24) Bottled or tap water? 25) If you won $10,000 today, what would you do with it? 26) What's your favourite place to hang out at? 27) Do you believe in ghosts? 28) Favourite thing to do in your spare time? 29) Do you swear a lot? 30) Biggest pet peeve? 31) In one word, how would you describe yourself? 32) Do you believe in love at first sight? 33) Favourite and least favourite food? 34) Do you believe in God? 35) In one word, how would you describe me? 36) Will you repost this so I can fill it out and do the same for you?

09:08 pm - Like I Need a Husband with a big head! NOT THAT KIND! PERVERTS!
So my oldest sent her friend a disgusting bumper sticker dealing with FILTF (Father being the first "F"), because it seems his dad is the hottest thing going and my daughter and her friends drool over him. Anyway she was explaining this to the PITA and myself and of course PITA had no clue what it meant. Then she drops the bomb and said that one of the mom's at school thought PITA was a FILTF.
Move over ggtw, PITA's grin might blind you. I've never seen a 48 year old man so please with himself. He walked around saying "I'm a filtie" and I'd say "A FILTF", and he'd say "yeah, that's what I said, a filtie. See other women want to...you know...with me." then the stupid grin would kick in again.
Later last night in bed he turns to me with that stupid grin and an eyebrow going up and down. So I did what any self respecting woman married to a FILTF would do. I called the 85lb dog, who jumped on the bed and got right in between us, and rolled over and went to sleep.

11:04 pm - TRI STATE WARNING! DRIVERS OF NEW YORK, NEW JERSEY AND POSSIBLY CONNECTICUT!
WARNING!
THERE IS ANOTHER PITA-ETTE ON THE ROAD!
Yes, my little one turned 16 on Sunday and today got her Learner's Permit. Truthfully, she didn't do that bad. I took her driving this afternoon and no harm came to animal, friend or foe. She did yell at a few birds but that was the worst of it.
Actually I'm wondering how much practice she's had prior to today. I find it very odd that she can make turns better then her sister (who's been driving 3 years). But I shouldn't suspect the eldest Pita-ette or her ever lovely friends of illegally taking a un-permitted driver driving. No, they'd never to that.
Pita's b'day was Friday and we had a nice quite day. I worked :P and he went fishing. Unfortunately the only thing he caught was a nasty sunburn. That night the pita-ettes went to the movies and we prepared for little pita's surprise b'day party.
She didn't want a big party and decided against visiting Mickey or Cruising. All she wanted was theater tickets. So with a little prodding from my MIL we had a small surprise party for her at the house. It went great. The older pita's two friends kidnapped her after work on Saturday and held her until it was time to come home. She thought we were going to The Cheesecake Factory and worried that she was late when she walked in the door. We yelled SURPRISE and she screamed and started to cry. It was priceless. We had a great time and the food was great and she got lovely gifts. And Wednesday she's off for a day in the City, lunch at the Stardust Diner and then to see Legally Blond with her sister.
I can't believe she's driving, damn I'm getting old.
I can now relax for 13 days, and then have the older pita-ette's b'day. I think I'm going to make it easy on myself and give her cash :P. I'm too old for anymore surprises.
:P
